“Introduction to Sociology: Marx, Inequality, and Revolution”

 

This is an adaptation of a my introduction to sociology course I have been teaching for about a decade.  In the course I link the “big ideas” of the founding fathers of sociology (Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim) to contemporary sociological issues.  The course was designed to give an overview of the foundational concepts and theories of sociology as well as some of the most important social issues today.  Students are asked to reflect on whether the ideas of the founders of sociology are still relevant today.  In my face-to-face class, I included all three founding sociologists, but for the online course, as it is designed as an 8-week class, I have focused on Marx.
